CLICK ME: Locally Known Fundraising Campaign!

Peterborough photographer Kimberly Peck begins a 30-day Kickstarter Campaign to raise funds for the expansion of her popular local farm & food photo segment, Locally Known: a photographic celebration of our local farms. In 2011, Kim began photo journaling local farms & producers in the Monadnock area in the hopes of building support for the growing local food movement and she is now looking to expand both the region and scope of her work. The campaign seeks to raise $7000 to cover the costs of travel around New England, photography, regional exhibitions and the creation of an amazing coffee table art book & 2013 calendar for sale throughout New England.

** I am so very thrilled to launch this fundraiser, and I can’t wait to get out there photographing our amazing New England farms ~ I hope you will join my excitement for supporting local art & local food, and in advance, I would like to thank you for any support you are able to offer, even if it just means getting the word out there to people who would like to contribute!!

enjoy the sunshine today ~ what a treat to have the clouds gone, at least for a little while! and thank you so much for all of your wonderful comments on my PhotoBooth images from Greenerborough…how lucky i am to have such a great community of supporters!!

i can’t believe that i haven’t posted this little lady yet – she is a beauty! her big first birthday is just around the corner…and i get to photograph her again! yay!

PhotoBooth Sneak Peek! Greenerborough 2012!

First, it would be difficult to put into words how awesome the PhotoBooth was at Greenerborough on Saturday…so, I am going to let the photographs do the talking! Below are a few sneak peeks from the day…and I think you will see why I love them!! Second, a huge thank you to all of the wonderful people who stepped into my PhotoBooth – with your silly faces and willingness to have some fun, the day was a total success! And third, an even bigger thank you to all of the local farmers who made the day possible…amazing food, lovely plants, homemade pizza, grass-fed burgers, farm animals, tractor, heavenly chocolate milk…the list goes on and on! I started the sneak peeks with the farmers from the day, and in all fairness to those who stepped into the booth, I even got in there for one myself!

*The full Photobooth gallery will be posted by May 26, 2012 – an email will be sent around to my list when the gallery is online, as well as a notice posted on my Facebook page and here, with the password information.

Also, my Locally Known exhibit in Bass Hall (the main hall) in the Peterborough Historical Society (Grove Street – open Wednesday – Saturday 10-4) will be up until May 31! Lots of new Locally Known farm images to see!

As part of Peterborough’s Greenerborough event on Saturday, May 5, 2012, local photographer Kimberly Peck will be presenting her series, Locally Known: a photographic celebration of our local farms, in Bass Hall at the Peterborough Historical Society. Locally Known takes viewers on a journey through the foods and farms of the Monadnock Region, chronicling the stories of the farmers and celebrating their hard work, passion & commitment through the power of photographs. By reinforcing the importance of the relationship between farmer and consumer, the intention of Locally Known is to deepen our connection with our local food systems. Peck’s work can also be viewed on her website.

In addition to her exhibit, Peck will be running her popular Photobooth on the lawn of the Historical Society, capturing the community through her lens as they visit the Greenerborough festivities. When you step into her Photobooth, be prepared to laugh & have fun! Also on the lawn of the Historical Society there will be a children’s Art & Crafts table, with fun projects for all ages, as well as a display of beautiful farm drawings by Ms. Dunning’s 2nd grade from Peterborough Elementary School.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you…This is the first of many notices/posts & information about the fantastic Greenerborough event that is just around the corner!!

I am thrilled that so many local farms will be participating this year, including Locally Known’s The Cornucopia Project, Manning Hill Farm, Ben’s Sugar Shack & Hand Drawn Farm! Come meet your local farmers, find out where to get amazing locally grown food, visit my Photobooth on the lawn of the Historical Society, plus my photography exhibit in the main hall of the Historical Society, and to top it off, a kids’ Art Exhibit & craft table! Oh, did I mention all of the farm animals to see in Putman Park & the farm tractor to climb on?? Yes, the fun will just never end on May 5th!!

I am thrilled to continue my photographic series, Locally Known: A Photographic Celebration of Our Local Farms. My column, and the Locally Known idea, grew from my own artistic desire to create a visual documentary of our local farmers, their farms, and to make a connection with our bounty of fresh local food.

My hope is that you will start a new relationship with your food, to know where it comes from and to connect with the people who provide it. I believe it strengthens our community when we have a connection with the hard-working people that provide us with fresh, natural and local food. Then, the next time you purchase locally raised grass-fed beef or a locally-grown organic vegetable (or two!), you will know exactly where it came from and who made it.

Come with me on my journey through our local farms ~ let’s make the choice to support the people who are genuinely taking care of our land and our dinner tables.

Eleven Thousand Taps…Pure Maple Syrup

Welcome to the first installment of Locally Known 2012! I am thrilled to continue documenting our local farms & farmers…My farm list is long this year, so please stay tuned for many more columns this season. And, I have a number of special projects going on with Locally Known ~ Can’t wait to share them all with you!

To say that Ben Fisk, owner of Ben’s Sugar Shack in Temple NH, is passionate about maple syrup would be a complete understatement. At the very young age of 5, Ben knew he wanted to make syrup; at the age of 5, I wanted to be Wonder Woman, so I really admire Ben’s dedication to living his dream. Today he proudly owns two sugar shacks, in Temple & Newbury NH, plus, he has 11,000 taps running. Yes, that’s 11,000. As mentioned in a recent post, I am pretty sure that during certain times of the year, I have maple syrup running through my veins…probably because I tend to drink it right out of the bottle. So, I was eager to visit Ben’s Sugar Shack during a boiling weekend, and to share the experience & process with my children. Needless to say, we were not disappointed. One of Ben’s awesome employees, Tom, was there to give us a tour, share information on the process, and kindly get in some of the images. The room smelled amazing and we were all delighted to have sticky shoes from walking around. Of course, we had to bring home some of Ben’s fabulous maple products, including the maple cotton candy, maple cream and, of course, maple syrup. If you have a chance to get out and about for the Maple Weekend Open House, stop by Ben’s Sugar Shack for a tour & delicious treats…you really won’t regret it (although, I can’t promise your head won’t be spinning from the sugar rush, but hey, that’s just part of the fun!)
