sap equals spring.

…at least for me it does, and it’s always exciting when the sap buckets arrive. growing up in VT, the buckets were as common as the cows. i always loved seeing them put out, ready to be filled and made into my favorite drink.. i mean, pancake topping. yes i am guilty of drinking it straight out of the bottle. still do it in fact….legend has it, my great-grandmother used to sip it with a straw. yum!

New Hampshire Maple Weekend is March 24 & 25 – as is Vermont’s – so hopefully everyone will be able to check out a local sugarhouse to see the amazing process. For information: New Hampshire Maple Producers Association, Inc.

Farmer John’s Plot :: A Day in the Life :: Monadnock Table Magazine

I am thrilled to have my ‘A Day in the Life’ column in the just-out Spring issue of Monadnock Table Magazine ~ The current issue is pretty amazing, I have to say. A bountiful wealth of agricultural information, plus some great articles and photographs. Editors Marcia and Jodi have done a brillant job as always…Make sure to pick up your copy today. The magazine is carried in a ton of places, but for Peterborough, it can be found at Maggie’s Market, Green Grocer & Shaw’s. Please, do yourself a favor and go find a copy…you will read it cover to cover!

Farmer’s John’s Plot is a great farm, located in Dublin. John & Garrett are super hard-working, offering beyond organic produce through their CSA & farmstand. They will be offering farm fresh eggs this year, along with a new farmstand on Chesham Road (right before  – or after, depending on which way you go – Audrey’s Cafe on Rt. 101). You can find them at the Fresh Chicks Market on Mondays, located in the hospital parking area, starting in May. This past Thanksgiving, we bought one of Farmer John’s organic turkeys for our family dinner, and to say it was delicious is an understatement ~ It was the best turkey I have ever had (and we always eat organic, local farm turkeys for Thanksgiving). My children also got to see a little bit of the process of the turkey harvest, which really connects them to the food they ate that holiday (a very important & critical connection, in my book!)  I hope you all have a chance to meet Farmer John & Farmer Garrett…and please take a moment to thank them for all of their hard working providing this area with amazing food!!

I am thrilled to launch my online store…it’s been a while in the making, and I want to thank everyone who kept asking (repeatedly) if there was  place where they could buy prints. I will be adding new items frequently (framed prints & postcards coming soon!). If there is a certain print size you are looking for (for instance, you just really need a poster size print of the chickens), please ask as I can make custom listings.

I hope you all are familiar with Etsy, it’s a fabulous site devoted to art, craft and vintage goodies…if not, then please take some time to search around and look at all the goodies…There are some pretty amazing artists on there!
